Chotto Matte - Japanese Joint in Soho

One grey and wet evening I grabbed my coat and umbrella and ventured to Soho's Frith Street to meet my foodie friend Allison for our usual catch up. I booked us a new Japanese restaurant called 'Chotto Matte' which translated means 'Please wait a moment'. Seems like Westerners will name their restaurants anything now just to make it sound slightly exotic to appeal more to the market. Anyway, I am not here for the name, I am here for the food!

Once again I did very little research about this place so I did not know what to expect. Upon entering the big lounge and bar on the ground floor I immediately felt I like was transported to New York. The big wall on one side is covered with illustrations of Manga graffiti that adds a pop of colour and urban feel to the whole place. You would never see this in Mayfair.

I have always heard New Yorkers complain hat there aren't any cool lounges places to go to in London for nights were you really don't want to go all out. Maybe this could be it?




We were showed our way upstairs to the dinning area and after drooling over the menu and realising that its not just a Japanese restaurant but a Peruvian fusion too we thought it better to ask for recommendations from our waiter. He did a great job at advising us I have to say, we loved everything we got served, and the ingredients were so fresh and well made! I think this may be my new favourite Japanese place in Soho.


I didn't want to order this salad but my fellow diner insisted and after tasting it I was so glad that she did!

Prawn Tempura, the prawns were very fresh and perfectly cooked. Much better than the Nobu ones.

Miso black cod. Good but not the best I've had.

The only negative comment I have was that the food was a bit slow. Our dinner lasted just over 2 hours and we kind of got hungry between courses. I put this down to the fact that they have only been open for one month. So maybe the name 'Chotte Matte' (please wait a moment) is suited after all?

The dessert were slightly less impressive. My fondant was over cooked by a few minutes. Allison's pear cake was a winner though, kind of like a less alcoholic version of Rum Baba. Over all I had a great food experience and will definitely be going back!

Food and Travel Lovers, I am back!

I know, I know, it has been three months. I don't write, I don't call but I hope you will forgive me. I am back now, and yes I have missed you. Thank you to all the new followers while I have been away, you really made me happy.

It has been a busy summer with my friends and I hopping on and off planes, catching trains, making and missing reservations, drinking wine and wasting champagne, dancing under the moon light and watching sunrises. I probably can't do all the posts for all these trips so I figured I could show you little snippets of my summer as a 'Sorry I have been gone so long' gesture. So here goes...

Mykonos
I made a vow that I will skip Ibiza this year (ok so I did go once but that was it), so a bunch of us decided this year we will explore what Mykonos has to offer. The fact that Greece is in the sh*t did not affect the prices as we hoped. In fact Mykonos seems to be immuned to all that. Never the less we had an awesome time anyway!

Flesh and Bun
Back in London I craved Asian food so we went to check out Flesh and Bun which I have to say is fantastic! Great food, sinful deserts and fun atmosphere. I liked it so much I went back again a few weeks later.








South of France
Every girl needs girly time so Deanna and I flew over to Nice to visit Simona who is living in Monaco. We did road trips during the day to St Tropez and Cap Ferret. There is nothing better than girly chit chat on the beach and more 'shit' chat as the clock strikes twelve.

The boyfriend had to do some work in HK so he told me to come along for the ride. As a baby I lived in HK and it has been maybe 10 years since I was there last. It felt really good to go back and see how much things have changed. Unfortunately I did not take too many photos on this trip but my favourite place of all was Cafe Grey at the Upper House (hotel). I cannot recommend this hotel and bar enough.

Oooh It's a beautiful night! What better way to close the summer than to go see my favourite male singer? He sounds even better live than he does on record. Don't tell me I am the only one who has a secret crush on Bruno? C'mon girls, own up!
